2005: Didn’t know NASCAR (or TED) while working my first NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (thank you Jason Golden!) 2025: Didn’t imagine being on the track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway ?? let alone with a TEDSports themed car ??? 2045: Definitely NOT predicting the future (nor driving a race car ??) but if want to be around people who will shape what 2045 may look like — in sports, leadership, tech, and storytelling — you should consider joining TEDSports Indianapolis (Sep 9 - Sep 11,2025). The ideas will be fast. The stories will be powerful. And the only thing as inspiring as the speakers… might be the pit crew. ???? Link in comments ???? #BeAGameChanger #MyFirstNASCARRace

Addressing the gender imbalance in sports science is crucial. A comprehensive review examined the impact of the menstrual cycle on athletic performance. The study found: 1?? Many athletes perceive their performance to be worse around menstruation. 2?? However, objective measures of performance (strength, endurance, anaerobic capacity) do not show clear impacts of the menstrual cycle. 3?? This suggests that perceived performance and physical performance may not always align, but sports performance nevertheless can be influenced by both perceived and physical factors. Why is this important? Understanding the interplay between the menstrual cycle and athletic performance is crucial for optimizing training, recovery, and overall well-being for female athletes. Let's break the stigma and start talking openly about women's health in sports. What are your experiences? Let us know in the comments. ?? * @Mikaeli Carmichael et al. (2021). Throughout history, athletes and institutions have challenged norms, fought discrimination, and reshaped the world of sport. Here are some powerful global moments where inclusion took center stage: ?? End of the color barrier in Major League Baseball (USA, 1947): MLB's unwritten ban on Black players was broken, setting a precedent for integrating professional sports across the U.S. ?? Launch of the official Paralympic Games (Rome, 1960): The global recognition of athletes with disabilities began with formalized, international competition - now a permanent part of the Olympic movement. ?? FIFA Women’s World Cup shatters records (Germany, 2011): Over 850 million viewers tuned in, helping elevate women's sports visibility on a global scale. ?? Introduction of the Refugee Olympic Team (IOC, 2016): For the first time, the International Olympic Committee allowed athletes without a national team - due to displacement or conflict - to compete under the Olympic flag. This policy change recognized the rights of stateless athletes and sent a powerful message about inclusion and humanity in sport. ??? These turning points show that progress often happens not just through athletes’ bravery, but through the systems that evolve behind them — from eligibility rules to international governance.
